Gold has always been more than metal. Gold is value. Value is age . And age is what remains after many decades of pressure, hardship, and patience. We elders are told our value is over. I say our gold is still being uncovered. I am a boomer elder of age and will be solo prospecting for gold flakes and nuggets in the remoteness of northern Labrador.

I am a boomer elder and reject the idea that us elders are meant to sit on the sidelines, scroll through other people’s adventures, shrink our lives, mute our voices, and politely make room. I reject emotional, social isolation disguised as “retirement.” I reject invisibility.
